my thrifty fall decorations

Ok, so since little man came along, Ive cut back to 3 days a week at work and boy has it really hurt out budget. Im so glad to get to be home with him though, so finding some thriftier ways to do things is ok with me, so I was decorating for fall which I really didnt have much to begin with and started thinking that i really needed to go shopping and pick some stuff up. Well, I happened upon a couple of blogs that were talking about some thrifty decorations and these were my attempt at trying out some of those ideas:

I had to throw the one of the little man in there too, it was just too cute to pass up. Anyway, I had a plain pumpkin basket that I had picked up last year so I made a quick trip to the dollar store and picked up sunflowers for $2 a bunch and I only needed 1 bunch. so I trimmed them down to fit in the basket. Next I found some old flower vases from years ago when the hubby had gotten me flowers and filled them with cinnamon sticks, pinecones and some other various potpourri type things that I had then stuck the candles on top that I had once it was close enough that they would stick out. The salt and pepper shakers I found at the dollar store also for $1.50. so total spent for this arrangement was $3.50. My dad even came over and saw the candle holders and asked where I bought them:-)
Next I had seen a wreath that someone had made out of craft leaves from the dollar store so I decided to try it. I had gotten a bag of leaves for $1 and cut out a wreath shape from some cardboard that we had in the basement. I hot glued the leaves on once I figured out how I wanted them to be placed and then stuck a ribbon around it to attach it to the hook on my wall. So, here is the finished project:
I love it. Im thinking about making a larger one for the front door but Im not sure yet. This one is about 12" tall. Of course I'll have to get something heavier than cardboard for the base of it, but Im sure I could find something. Anyway, just wanted to post my little attempts at fall decorating on a budget. I have some other ideas that I will be doing hopefully this weekend so will post more pics then.

One more Rite Aid trip and some deals at Martins

So I decided to get one more deal at Rite Aid this week. That place is seriously addicting. Anyway, here is what I got:
3crest pro health toothpastes at $2.99=8.97
-(3) $1/1 MC from 8/29 P&G insert=5.97 + (2) $2 UP rewards for next time
(3) Listerine zero mouthwash at $2.99=8.97

(2) Huggies refill packs of 184 wipes at $7.99 and were BOGO 50% off so totalled=11.99
-$1/1 manufacturer coupons=10.99
-.50/1 manufacturer coupons(received in mail last week)=10.49
I also had a $5/$25 coupon which was used prior to the other coupons being taken off which took my total down to $17.43 and I used the $$6 UP rewards from the huggies deal yesterday to make my total OOP= $10.43. I desperately needed baby wipes or I could have probably found an even better deal, but Im happy with this. With the $7 in UP rewards my total comes down to $4.43 and I will also submit for the $5 single check rebate for $15 worth of oral care products bringing it down yet again to a money maker of $1.57!
I also stopped at Martins to get some frozen birdseye steamer vegetables that were on sale for .69 cents a bag. I didn't have a coupon but at that price I still couldn't pass it up. So, I got 15 bags since that is the only way I can get little man to eat his veggies.

my first real attempt at weekly shopping with coupon match ups

So, this is my first blog entry after having my first real attempt at some coupon matchups with weekly deals.
Really didn't do a ton, but I think pretty good for my first attempt.
First, I stopped at Dollar General quickly just to get some razors that I desperately needed and to use a coupon that I found laying on the shelf at martins the other day for $3 off.
Schick Xtreme razors 4 pack $4.50
-$3 coupon= $1..50 for a 4 pack ( I know could have done better but remember it was my first try.

Next I was on to Staples for their sale this week.
Hammermill 500 pages printer paper on sale for $4.99
-$4.49 ebate
-$1/1 Hammermill paper coupon (ss 8/29 coupon)
=$.50 moneymaker
Also got their:
Bic 8 pk pens for $.01 with a $5 purchase
staples brand school glue for $.01 with a $5 purchase
Wescott all purpose 7" scissors for $.50
-so after the ebate I basically spend $.02 (so excited about this one!)
Ive never gone out and gotten such a great deal in my life and was so excited.

Next, I was on to Walmart to get a couple things.
Sunbelt 8 pk granola bars ( boxes at $2 a box)
Had 3 $1/1 coupons from sunbelts facebook page
got 3 boxes for $3 or $1 a box

Also cashed in my nabisco oreo or cracker coupon $1/2
got two 6 pk snack packs of oreos found at the registers for $.50 a piece
after coupon=FREE

I also needed bananas for little mans breakfast so all in all I walked out with 3 boxes of granola bars, 2 packs of oreos (snack size) and bananas for $4.23
I know not great, but for my first attempt I was pretty excited.
Yesterday was my big grocery trip and I managed to get a few good deals at Martins and Walmart then too, but not quite like today!
